My Roles

For the other 3 news show the other groups did in my class i had 3 very different jobs to do.

For the first group i was assigned to be Camera Operator, my role as camera operator means i am in charge of my camera and setting it up, this includes getting the camera out safely and connecting all the wires up, it all mean i have to make sure my camera is in the right position and showing a good shot, i only had one problem during this and that was when my camera feed was not showing in the control room, i fixed this quickly by just changing the wire as the one i had was broken.

For the 2nd Group i was a guest on the debate they had on the news show, this means while everyone is setting up and getting ready i had to read and learn my script i also had to rehearse with my partner who was on with me to make sure nothing went wrong during the live recording, i was also asked to dress smart for this occasion to make the show look more professional.

For the 3rd group i was assigned to sound mixer, this mean while the live recording was happen i had to drop the volume when the VTs were playing and put it back up again after. During the setting up period i also had to get all the mic's out and check if they were working through sound checks, also i had to connect all the headsets which are used so the Camera Operator and people in the Vision mixing room and talk to each other.

Channel 21 News - Running Order

Running Order

Introducing - What is coming up on the show tonight

Opening Titles - This will be a 10-20second video where the theme tune will play in the background showing a visual video.

Train Prices (Studio) - There will be a 1-2 min introduction of when the train prices set to rise there prices and by how much (Studio - News bulliten 1)

Train Prices VT - This will be a 1-2min VT insert about the rise in train prices

Olympics - Informing the viewers about the opening of the park to the public, and what is going on with the park now.

Music and Dance - Talking about how younger people are being inspired to go into creative arts.

Music and Dance VT - This VT will include an interview with The MBG, and will last roughly 2-3Mins.

ADVERT BREAK

From Books to the screen - Talking about films that have been converted from a book to a film. Also an interview with tom hardy will be quoted on the TV screen.

Benefits street - Will be discussed with all the presenters as well as reading a script as to how the public have taken to disgrace with the programme.

Uk Floods - We will be talking about the flooded areas, and what have/can be done to help those in need.

Closing titles - This we be about 30seconds long, and will included the names of those who helped out in the production .

Channel 21 news Set Design

Set design - Set desiging is a huge part which makes a television news show sucsssful, using the space and the equipment you have to your advantage. Above you can see many different ways in which news show use there space to conduct an interesting set design, which is interesting the the audience, working with ket features, like having windows looking onto london.

We as a production team were inspired by many set designs, from news shows. Below you can see out basic set design.

We took into consideration, the time of day which our news show would be broadcasted, as many morning/day time shows have a more relaxed set, with sofas, and photos on coffee tables. However during the evening, the sets become more formal, with desk and laptops.

Lighting - Lights are a huge part of studios as you want to light the studio well, but keep the light natural, letting the audience feel like the presenters are in a room, and not a studio. Having been in a news studio myself, and seeing the light set ups, i understood that studios use artificial lighting, was lights the studio how the sun would light it. We as a production team have decided to follow the same lighting rule, although we have been given coloured paper to change the lighting colour.

Production research - Floor plan / Camera setup

Above is the floor plan of our News show, and where the camera will be placed. We are starting with one camera in the visual mixing room to be more engaging with the audience, and to allow the presenter to interactive with the crew that work behind the scenes. We also want to have an opening title that allows the audience to always know what show they are watching when the news programme starts. Like on the BBC News the presenter will stand by a TV screen and inform you with the top 3 or 4 headlines. There will be a separate area where the camera will film the presenter in front of a TV screen, to allow some news bulletins that need pictures to illustrate the information. This also gives the audience a different setting to look at instead of just watching the two presenters on the sofa.

Idea Generation - Channel 21 News

News story ideas;

Having the right news stories in your news program is crusal, as what you may think is "News" Others may not agree with you.
Below you can see the mind mapping we did. We wrote down any thing that came to mind, that we could report on, Keeping in mind our target audience and wanting to keep the news bulletins not to serious;

After discussing each topic and creating arguments as to why we should have one topic and not another, we came up with our 5 news stories that would be filling our 20 minute news show;

The Rise in train fares
More film directors are using books for inspiration?
The rise in music and dance in the UK over the last 2 years
How concerts are going to be held in the Olympic stadium, and What can the opening of the new park bring?
Benefit street, and how more people are being pushed to leave there homes and become homeless?

We then discussed what News bulletins should have VT's included in them, after abit of time discussing the pros and cons we decided that;

The rise in train fares
The rise in music and dancers in the UK Over the last 2 years

Would have a VT in bedded in the news bulletin. However some articles Like the

Olympic stadium
films using books for inspiration

Would be presented by the TV screen, where pictures of what the presenter is talking about can be projected on the screen, allowing the audience to get some visual, whilst watching the news bulletin.

Target audience
Although all Programmes have a target audience. Most news shows are targeting to informal the whole general public specifically young adults, adults and elders with the daily news. However some news show specifically target there news program at a certain aged audience. For instant Newsround, on CBBC, there target audience is specifically for 6-12 year old audience. On the news round website they clearly state that "News-round has a target audience of 6 to 12-year-olds and the stories and language used in our bulletins reflects that.

We try to pick stories that will appeal to our viewers - and we try to bring a child's view into our reports."

One other important factor to consider is the time and the in which you will broacast your show, as bard casting news round at 1:00Pm ion the afternoon everyday, will not get many views as the main target audience is at school. The same with broadcasting BBC news at Mindnight, when the majority of people are asleep. When programmes are broadcasted in the afternoon on a weekday, the target audience will genially be people who are retied, from around the age of 60 and above. Below you can see the target audience we were considering;

We chose 16-20 Year olds, as we can approach the news show from a more entertainment point of view other than being a serious formal news show like BBC One. Hence why were having light hearted stories. We are aiming our news show for both genders, but also the working, and higher education class of people. Giving them interesting yet up to date information that they can go and talk to there friends about, giving them conversation. We also to broadcast our news show on Thursday evening at 8:00PM, as it allows for workers to be able to watch the light hearted news show, but its also a prime time TV, where the majority of the UK sit and watch TV. We chose Thursday instead of Friday, as the majority of our targeted age group, will be out with friends and partying on the evening of friday, also it allows the presenters to give an overview of the weeks news and music.
