My film - Single Camera Drama

Here is my finished single camera drama

Sound 2 - Single Camera Drama

In the media industry there are a lot of people involved in the choice of what the soundtrack is going to sound like and what sound effects are going to be used. The people that involved are, the director he will have the ultimate say in what is used. The sound mixer, The mic operator, The editor ( although he doesn’t have a big role in what is used) Sound operator.

Some key terms we had to explain were ‘picture lock’ and ‘spotting’. Picture lock is where the visuals of the scene had completely been edited so then they can start to edit the sound without worrying about the visuals. It is done in the order because if they edit the sound while they edit the visuals and they want to change something or cut out a scene all the sound will be out of place. So it genuinely makes the editing easy and quicker.
The term spotting means when you work out where certain sound effects or music will appear in your film during postproduction or pre production

They’re a number of sounds in my film. All the sounds I’m going to record my self will be recorded with a clip on rode mic, I’m using this because most of the sound i will be live recording is dialogue and the rode mic is the best for this as you can cut out background sound out like wind or cars going by. It is also useful because it is small and light and easy to carry around. The other sounds I will be recording on the day is the sound of the 2 boys on their bikes. I will be using a few sound effects from freesound.org, This is a very useful websites with lots of sound effects you can use which are copy right free. I looked on there and very useful sound track called ‘horror tense ambience’. I’m going to use this in my film as I feel it adds real tension to the scene I’m going to use this in. This is a very conventional piece of music to use in a horror film. There is also another piece of tense music I will be using every time the killer is shown in the film.

Public Domain materials means something that is the publics right to use and no one owns copy right to it. This means that anybody can use this material to make a film/use in a film etc.
Downloading from the internet is mostly illegal, especially if your ripping from YouTube. Most people have downloaded a song illegal before but the issues related to this is that it is illegal and also it does not support the artist as they are not getting anything for it.. This is also applies for movies online, this seriously affects their income at the box office.
Licensed music means that someone owns the copyright to that song. This normal means that it is hard to use in a film especially for a student. If you did want to use a licensed song in a film you would have to get agreement from the person who owns the copy right and normally have to pay a fee to use it.

MCPS-PRS is a copyright organization who pays artist their royalties when their song gets public§ played or performed, for example when it is played on the radio.

There are many different types of files such as MP3, AIFF and WAVE files, there are many benefits and drawbacks of each.
A MP3 file  is a file that is easily compressed, it takes out all the unnesceray sound out ears cant hear, mp3 are easily played on many platforms. MP3 files are small in size which makes them easy to store and also easy to send. Due to illegal downloading and piracy the MP3 is slowing dying.

AIFF files are a file that isn’t compressed this means it is a large file type, but it also means it has high quality of sound. AIFF files are the macs version of a Wave file.  It is very flexible in terms of copy right.

WAVE Files are large in size due to no compression but this means they have some of the best quality because they haven’t gone through any changes. The negative is that they are very large in size compared to MP3 files.

Sound - Single Camera Drama

In Pauls Lesson we are learning about soundtrack and how and why sound is used in films. This is the worksheet we done but for my sound in my single camera drama.

We had to choose a couple of words to describe the tone of our sound for our film
Some of the words i chose were, Intense, creepy, dark.

The way my sound is going to help tell the story is to add the horror element to it, whenever the killer is seen or nearby I'm going to play tense music to make the scene more creepy. Also I'm going to use sound effects for when one of the characters gets stabbed to death, to make this scene more believable.

Nearly all of my sound apart from dialogue will be added in on a latter date because most of them are sound effects and i will need to add this in during post production. I will be recording my dialogue on the day using a RODE mic

Live sound : The only live sound i will have is the dialogue and sounds like foot steps, i want to record the other sounds at a later date as i want this sounds to be significant and i don't them i can make them effective if i record it on the day

ADR - ADR wont be necessary for my film as i am recording all my dialogue on the day, as i am filming in quite locations i should not have background noise disrupting my shoot.

Music - Most of the music i will be using in my film will be loud sudden music used for jump scares. I will also be using eerie music to some of my scenes where the killer is stalking the main characters to add tension.

Soundscapes -  I will be using a few soundscapes which i will be getting off of free sound.org, Im going to use this for my open scene to set the scene and add tension and affect to the film. I will also be using a tense sound effect every time the killer is near by. This is conventional for horror films, seen in films like Friday the 13th

Fight club Reshot

In pauls lesson we had to reshoot a iconic movie image from a scene. We chose a scene from fight club.

This is the shot we chose to recreate. We had a good idea of how the lighting was going to look like and luckily in the studio we had a light that looked exactly the same as the one in the shot, We couldn't get the actors tall enough as they are in the shot though, so we got tables and chairs and got the actors to stand up on them so they resembled the high of the characters.

This is we what we go
