As it goes into the flashback of the Beach scene the lighting goes very dull and grey to show the harshness of war and get the reality over.
It shows a point of view shot of there german machine gun to show how the Americans were sitting ducks
During the storm of the beach the sound is very loud and you can hear the men talk this it to show how chaotic the war was.
Shot handheld and camera is shaky to make it look more realistic, whereas if it was on a tripod it wouldn't be as dramatic and effective.
